Questions or something not working? Email support@stickermint.com with your store's .myshopify.com address and, if it's about a particular image, the product name. We reply within one business day.
Getting started
- On the app's Home, click Scan product images. The app lists every product image with its file size, dimensions and alt text. Scanning changes nothing.
- Open Settings: compression level (High quality, Balanced or Smallest files), longest side (larger images are scaled down; nothing is enlarged), alt text (only for images without it, or for all) and, if you want, descriptive file names.
- On Images, tick a few images and click Optimise. Check them on your store; when you're happy, use Optimise the next … on Home for the rest.
What optimising does
- JPEG, PNG and WebP product images are scaled down to your longest side if they're bigger, and JPEG and WebP are re-compressed at your level. PNG stays lossless.
- The new file replaces the content of the same product image (Shopify keeps it on its product, in the same position and on the same variants). The format and file extension never change.
- A new file is only uploaded if it is at least 5% (and 2 KB) smaller. Otherwise the image is marked Skipped with the reason and nothing changes.
- GIFs, animated WebP, SVG, AVIF and HEIC files, and files over 20 MB, are left as they are.
- Camera data such as location is not carried over into the optimised JPEG (only a copyright note is kept). The kept original still has everything.
Restoring
Before the first change to an image, the app keeps an exact copy of its file (the same bytes) and records its alt text and file name. Restore (one image, a selection, or Restore all) puts all three back. Download original saves the kept file to your computer. Restoring and downloading are never limited and don't use your monthly allowance. If an image was replaced in Shopify after it was optimised (by you or another app), the app no longer offers to restore the older file over your newer one.
Alt text and file names
- Templates use placeholders:
{product_title},{product_handle},{vendor},{product_type},{shop_name}and{n}(the image's number on its product). - File names are written in lowercase with hyphens and keep their extension. If a name is taken, the app adds -2, -3 and so on.
- Renaming changes the image's web address. Your theme and product pages pick up the new address on their own, but links to the old address elsewhere (emails, ads, other sites) stop working. That's why renaming is off by default.
Auto-optimise (Pro)
With Optimise new product images automatically on, images added to products afterwards are optimised with your settings within about 15 minutes (the app checks recently updated products every 5 minutes). Images that were already in your store are only changed when you choose them.
Plans
Free: 50 optimised images a month, alt text and file names for the images you optimise, restore and original downloads. Pro ($6.99 / month, 7-day free trial): 1,000 optimised images a month, auto-optimise for new product images, and alt text and file names for any number of images without compressing them. Plus ($12.99 / month, 7-day free trial): 5,000 optimised images a month and everything in Pro. Only images that were actually optimised count; allowances reset on the 1st of each month (UTC). Plans are managed on Shopify's plan page (Plans → Choose a plan / Manage plan) and billed by Shopify.
Uninstalling
Optimised images stay as they are in your store. The kept originals and the image list are deleted 48 hours after you uninstall, when Shopify asks apps to erase a store's data. If you want any originals back, restore or download them before uninstalling (or reinstall within 48 hours).
Privacy
See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: the app works only with your product images and product names. It never reads customer or order data.
