Privacy policy

Mint Image Optimizer is a Shopify app made by Mint Labs ("we", "us"). It makes a merchant's product images smaller, writes their alt text and file names, and keeps the originals so they can be restored. This policy explains what the app handles, why, and when it's deleted.

The short version

  • The app works only with the merchant's product images and product details. It never reads customer or order data, and has no access to it.
  • It keeps exact copies of the original image files it replaced, privately, so the merchant can restore or download them.
  • Nothing is added to the storefront: no scripts, no cookies, no tracking of shoppers.
  • Everything is deleted 48 hours after the app is uninstalled (Shopify's store deletion request).
  • We never sell or share data, use it for advertising, or combine it across stores.

What the app stores

InformationWhyKept
Store domain, store name and a Shopify access tokenTo read product images and update them on the merchant's instruction; the store name can be used in alt text templates.Token: until uninstall. Rest: until the store deletion request
The list of product images: product ID, title, handle, vendor and type; each image's ID, address, file name, alt text, file size, dimensions and state (optimised, skipped …)The Images page, the numbers on Home, and the alt text / file name templates. While installed; deleted with the store deletion request
Exact copies of original image files the app replaced, with their original alt text and file nameRestore (put the original back exactly) and Download original. Stored privately in Cloudflare R2; only the merchant's admin can download them. While installed; deleted after the store deletion request (within hours)
Settings (compression level, longest side, alt text and file name templates, auto-optimise)To optimise images the way the merchant chose. While installed
Job history (what ran, when, how many images, bytes saved, reasons for skipped images)The Activity page.90 days
Plan (Free or Pro), its dates and the monthly count of optimised imagesRead from Shopify to decide which features and allowance apply. Payments are handled entirely by Shopify. While installed

Product images can show anything the merchant chose to upload. The app doesn't look at what they show: it only resizes and re-encodes the pixels. If an image contains embedded camera data (for example a GPS location), the optimised JPEG keeps at most a copyright note; the kept original is stored unchanged.

Customer privacy requests

  • Access and erasure requests (Shopify's customers/data_request and customers/redact): the app holds no customer data, so there is nothing to return or delete. The requests are acknowledged.
  • Store deletion (shop/redact, sent 48 hours after a merchant uninstalls): we delete everything we hold for the store. Database rows are deleted at once; the kept original files are deleted by a job that runs every 5 minutes.

Where data is processed and how it's protected

The app runs on Cloudflare (hosting, database, file storage, image processing and job queue) and connects to Shopify's APIs. Images are processed with Cloudflare Images inside the app; they are not sent to any other service. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is limited to Mint Labs staff who need it to provide support. We use no other sub-processors, analytics or trackers. See our security policy.
