Lighter product images. Every original kept.
Mint Image Optimizer scales down oversized product photos, re-compresses them in their own format, writes alt text and descriptive file names — and keeps an exact copy of every original, so you can put any image back with one click.
3 images · 13.5 MB saved
4.9 MB · 4000 × 4000 → 412 KB · 2560 × 2560
2.1 MB · 3024 × 3780 → 296 KB · 2048 × 2560

Smaller files, better alt text, nothing lost
Everything runs from the Shopify admin. No theme code, nothing added to your storefront.
Camera and studio photos are often 5,000 pixels or more across. Choose a longest side (2560 px suits most themes' zoom) and larger images are scaled down, aspect ratio kept, never enlarged.
JPEG and WebP files are re-encoded at the quality you choose: high quality, balanced or smallest. PNG stays lossless. A new file is uploaded only if it is at least 5% smaller.
Before anything changes, the app stores an exact copy of the original file with its alt text and file name. Restore one image, a selection or everything, and download any original.
Fill missing alt text from the product title, vendor or type, or replace all of it. Alt text describes images to people using screen readers and to search engines.
Optionally rename files like IMG_4021.jpg to stoneware-coffee-mug-1.jpg. The extension never changes, and the app tells you plainly what renaming affects.
Turn on auto-optimise and images added to products are optimised with your settings within about 15 minutes. Images already in your store are only changed when you choose.
Three steps
Start with a few images, check them on your store, then do the rest.
The app lists every product image with its size, dimensions and alt text. A scan changes nothing.
Compression level, longest side, alt text template and, if you want, file names.
Pick images or optimise the next batch. Progress, savings and anything skipped are shown with the reason.

Questions merchants ask
Does Shopify not optimise images already?
Shopify's CDN creates the sizes and modern formats your theme asks for, but it starts from the file you uploaded. A 6,000-pixel, 8 MB photo is still stored and processed as one. The app makes that stored file smaller, so the large and zoom sizes your theme requests come from a lighter source, and it fills in alt text, which Shopify doesn't write for you.
Will optimising break anything on my store?
The new file replaces the content of the same product image: it stays on its product, in the same position and on the same variants. The format and file extension never change. Unless you turn on renaming, the file name and address stay the same too.
Can I undo it?
Yes. The exact original file, its alt text and its file name are kept from the first change. Restore puts all three back for one image, a selection, or everything at once. You can also download any original. Restoring is never limited.
Which images are changed?
Product images in JPEG, PNG and WebP. GIFs, animated images, SVG, AVIF and HEIC files are left as they are, and so is any image where optimising would save less than 5%.
What counts towards the monthly allowance?
Images that were actually optimised (a smaller file uploaded). Scanning, restoring, downloading originals and images left as they are don't count.
What does the app store, and where?
Your product image list (titles, handles, file sizes, alt text) in its database, and exact copies of the originals it replaced in Cloudflare R2 storage, private to your store. No customer data. Everything is deleted 48 hours after you uninstall, when Shopify asks apps to erase a store's data; restore what you want before uninstalling.
